Founder's Corner

On today's Founder's Corner edition, I wanted to dive in and look at exactly what your podcast story looks like…

Your podcast’s brand story is the narrative that connects your listeners with your values, vision, and personality. The brand identity of your podcast is the visual and verbal expression of your story – such as your name, colors, fonts, voice, and tone. Together, they form the foundation of your podcast marketing strategy.

After 8 years in the business of podcasting, I've seen many podcasters come and go. So what separates those who succeed from those who fizzle out? I believe it has to do with exactly that...your brand story!

Okay, so let's dive in a little deeper. How can you make sure that your podcast brand story is one that will draw in listeners and ultimately become successful? What makes your story hit home or resonate with an audience? I believe it comes down to three key factors: purpose, people, and practice. The 3 P's!

1. Purpose

Now, in our previous newsletter, we already identified that your purpose is your “why”. This is why you are here, this is why your audience has come to listen, and this is exactly what you’ve set out to do since day one of launching your podcast. Stay true to this purpose and you will build a loyal following amongst your listeners.

With consistency of purpose comes consistency of expectation that your audience will depend on as your podcast grows. It might not matter to everyone you reach, but your message will hit home to a select few. And eventually, more listeners will find you – listeners who truly need your help and have come to hear what you have to say. This is your purpose.

2. People

When growing your podcast, you also need to be aware of who your audience is. Instead of shooting in the dark trying to find new listeners, knowing where they spend their time is the best place to start. These are your people. These are the listeners that will be so glad to have found you, or that you’ve found them!

So where can you actively look? Or how can you strategically position yourself to "run into" those listeners? For starters, be present and actively engage in communities that are in your niche. Next, find ways to provide value to others, help solve problems, and become the expert that others lean on for advice. Carry this through on all your other platforms, continue providing value, and your people will find you.

3. Practice

What makes you different from others in what you deliver? Just as in business, when it comes to your podcast you stand out not only because of what you give your listeners but because of your unique experience, the insight you have to offer, and the complete package that is YOU!

It is up to you to continually find ways to innovate and differentiate your strategies for providing value to your audience. What can you do differently? How can you go above and beyond to make your podcast - and ultimately the message you bring - a complete "experience" for your listeners? This is your practice. Make it your own and people will notice!

Until next week...

Happy podcasting! 🎧

The One About Taking Action Carli and I were doing some “serious business brainstorming” the other day. And at some point in the “very serious brainstorming”, we rabbit-holed (as you do) down a path that led to, at the time, a very natural follow-up question, “So, what’s your go-to karaoke song?” FUN FACT: Carli’s is “Before He Cheats” by Carrie Underwood. (Classic!) Mine is Vanilla Ice’s “Ice, Ice Baby”. 🧊 Less classic. I know. But, for whatever reason, many moons ago, I had this brainwave...

The One About Hot Takes So, I recently did something a little different over on The Podcast Digest…I wrote a post where I shared one of my biggest podcasting 🔥hot takes🔥! 😬 Wanna know what it was? ALL podcasts should be edited! 🫢 Yip. I said it. (And whether you agree ✅ or disagree ❌, you can read the full post below!) And since then, we've been on a bit of a roll in the Hot Takes Department 😉 at We Edit Podcasts. And so I thought I was going to share another hot take with you here. But,...

The One About Confidence Let’s start with a little honesty circle. If you had to rank yourself on the Confidence Scale, where would you place yourself? Had you asked me this question a couple of months, heck, even a couple of weeks ago, I would have definitely placed myself on the lower end of the scale. 🫣 But why? Where did my confidence run off to? I certainly don’t remember signing any permission slips… Which made me realize, if we didn’t give it away, we’ve probably been conned out of our...
