To edit, or not to edit? ✂️

Published 9 months ago • 3 min read

We're (obviously) BIG fans of podcast editing. (It is in our name, after all! 😉)

But even if it wasn't in our name, we'd still be advocates of editing!

Why?

Let's cut to the chase. Editing can make...or break...your podcast.

Podcasts are all about the listener experience. And whether that experience is absolutely amazing or totally terrible rests heavily on the editing process. Because editing your episodes not only helps clean up your audio by removing unwanted background noise, awkward silences, and filler words like “ah” and the infamous, “um”, but editing can make your already great content even better!

Editing lets you polish your message so that it really shines. Editing ensures that all your episodes are jam-packed with value. With nothing to detract or distract from your amazing content. Ultimately, editing helps shape your podcast episodes into something that leaves a lasting, positive impact on its audience.

To cut a long story short, (we really could go on and on about the importance of editing, but we also have to practice what we preach 😉) editing your podcast is a crucial step that can take a podcast from good to one of the greats.

Staying productive in the middle of the third quarter can often be a challenge. However, this is exactly when you need to gear up your productivity in order to set you up for success and help you make the most of the remaining months.

Whether you’re a content creator, mom, podcaster, entrepreneur, or simply a busy human trying to manage various responsibilities, focusing on your productivity is vital! And now is the perfect time to reflect on your goals, reset your priorities, and propel yourself toward success.

So let’s help each other out and look at three common pitfalls that hinder our productivity and how you can work around them to execute an abundant and fulfilling third quarter.

1. Procrastination

Procrastination is the number one obstacle that many struggle with when it comes to productivity and drive. When we procrastinate our overthinking skyrockets. When we overthink, we waste time overplanning instead of simply getting things done.

For every minute you spend trying to be more productive, how many productive minutes are you actually gaining? Instead, you need to spend less time on busy work like "mapping" out your day and more time getting down to the nitty-gritty. Because when it comes down to it, productive work is work that makes a difference.

Where in your day can you nip procrastination in the bud and what tools can you use to do it?

2. Overthinking

So what do we do when overthinking kicks into high gear? First of all, we have to step back from this overthinking and recognize it for what it truly is - unnecessary mental chatter. Overthinking can often decrease our happiness because we are caught up in our thoughts instead of solving problems outwardly.

Keep in mind, when you are happier, you are more productive because you are less distracted by these intrusive thoughts, and therefore more likely to recognize opportunities as they arise. Our thoughts truly are the lens through which we see our world, so don't let them hijack your happiness!

What can you be doing to recognize these unproductive thoughts and foster moments of happiness?

3. Distractions

In our world today, distractions are absolutely everywhere! That is why we need to take every opportunity to settle our minds. A mind that is at ease with not being overstimulated does not crave distraction nearly as often as a mind that is constantly fed and berated by distractions.

Whether you get distracted by a question you're asked, a new notification that pops up, or another email to answer, there are endless ways in our daily lives that we end up down the rabbit hole. Ultimately, these distractions satisfy the craving our brains have for novelty. However, they significantly derail our productivity.

So what can you do today to create a distraction-free space and boost your productivity when it really counts?

Until next week...

Happy podcasting! 🎧

The One About Taking Action Carli and I were doing some “serious business brainstorming” the other day. And at some point in the “very serious brainstorming”, we rabbit-holed (as you do) down a path that led to, at the time, a very natural follow-up question, “So, what’s your go-to karaoke song?” FUN FACT: Carli’s is “Before He Cheats” by Carrie Underwood. (Classic!) Mine is Vanilla Ice’s “Ice, Ice Baby”. 🧊 Less classic. I know. But, for whatever reason, many moons ago, I had this brainwave...

The One About Hot Takes So, I recently did something a little different over on The Podcast Digest…I wrote a post where I shared one of my biggest podcasting 🔥hot takes🔥! 😬 Wanna know what it was? The One About Confidence Let’s start with a little honesty circle. If you had to rank yourself on the Confidence Scale, where would you place yourself? Had you asked me this question a couple of months, heck, even a couple of weeks ago, I would have definitely placed myself on the lower end of the scale. 🫣 But why? Where did my confidence run off to? I certainly don’t remember signing any permission slips… Which made me realize, if we didn’t give it away, we’ve probably been conned out of our...
